Marcus Blunt

Art Instructor - FUSE Lab Program

Marcus Blunt is a proud Washington, D.C. native with an innate eye and passion for art. Introduced to the art world by his father, Alvin Blunt Sr.—an accomplished oil painter—Marcus held his first art exhibit at just six years old at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in Washington, D.C.

Growing up during the Reaganomics era, Marcus temporarily lost touch with his artistic side as his community underwent drastic changes. Years later, after moving to Glendale, Arizona, he rediscovered his love for art while working at One Step Beyond, Inc. (OSBI), a day program for adults with intellectual disabilities. As OSBI’s Fine Arts Instructor, and under the mentorship of the late Maggie Laughlin, Marcus expanded his creativity and taught pottery, 2D and 3D art, and various painting mediums. He also redesigned OSBI’s official logo, event posters, and community brochures.

Marcus later joined the Special Olympics of Arizona (SOAZ) as the Marketing and Logistics Coordinator, where he designed event publications, banners, vehicle wraps, and merchandise—including the basketball backboards for the 2018 Fiesta Bowl 3-on-3 Classic.

His artwork has been featured at Art One Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, and online at Black Art Today!. Influenced by Salvador Dalí, Basquiat, Picasso, and his OSBI students, Marcus’s art reflects the struggles and triumphs of Indigenous people. A self-taught artist, he values intuition over formal technique—creating purely from vision and emotion.
