Our Community
Rooted in Edgewood. Committed for the long term.
A Community of Strength and Possibility
Located in Ward 5, Edgewood sits among some of Washington, DC’s leading institutions and public spaces. Yet proximity to opportunity has not always translated into access for families living within Edgewood Commons.
Beacon House exists to help ensure that it does through consistent, relationship-driven support grounded in the realities of the community.
What Being Place-Based Means
Being place-based means:
- Long-term relationships built on trust
- Integrated education, athletics, and mentoring
- Safe, accessible spaces close to home
- Deep partnerships with schools and community leaders
This consistency allows young people to grow with us from kindergarten through 12th grade, building stability that supports long-term success.
Community Is the Foundation
Young people thrive when their community is supported through presence, stability, and care.
Beacon House remains rooted in Ward 5 not simply because of geography, but because community is the foundation of our mission. Our commitment to Edgewood is long-term and it shapes how we show up every day.
Rooted in Community. Reaching Across the City.
Our newest participation map highlights how Beacon House’s reach has grown. What began as a program primarily serving youth from Edgewood now brings together young people from across Washington, DC, particularly Wards 4, 7, and 8, with representation across all eight wards.
This growth reflects the strength of our place-based model. Beacon House remains deeply rooted in Edgewood Commons, and it is this consistency, trust, and sense of belonging that draw families from across the city.
Students come together in one place to learn, play, and build community across neighborhoods, expanding access to opportunity while staying grounded in the community that started it all.
