Boys,
Girls, and
Teen Mentoring
Groups
Mentoring
groups
are
held
weekly
and
provide
participants
a
forum
to
express
their
feelings,
thoughts,
and
diverse
viewpoints
on
issues
affecting
their
lives
at
home
or
in
school.
The
goal
of
the
groups
is
to
strengthen
decision-making
skills,
increase
responsibility
taking,
and
enhance
overall
self-knowledge.
The
Girl Scout
Council of
the Nation's
Capital provides
school year
support of
the Girl Scouts
Troop #4938.
Girls learn
and participate
in enriching
activities,
contribute
to their community,
make new friends,
and learn
more about
themselves
while at the
same time
having a great
time.
Arts
and Crafts
Arts
and Crafts
provide opportunities
for youth
that stress
creativity,
learning and
education.
Led by volunteers
from different
metropolitan
D.C. Unitarian
Universalist
churches,
Arts and Crafts
brings together
volunteers
and children
of varying
cultural and
socio-economic
backgrounds
and has proven
to foster
a greater
sense of cross-cultural
understanding.
Cultural
Arts at Summer
Camp Leap
Cultural
arts are the
theme of Beacon
House's summer
camp program.
Each year,
Beacon House
partners with
a variety
of organizations
who provide
dance, arts
and/or music
instruction.
Sierra
Club Inner
City Outings
Inner City Outings takes Beacon House youth
once a month
on a field
trip outside
the city that
provides the
opportunity
to explore
nature, go
hiking, and
learn about
the environment.
