FOCUS
on Excellence
FOCUS on Excellence is Beacon House's cornerstone education program for 1st through 8th graders which began in September 2001. The program offers one-on-one tutoring in a back to basic reading and math program which is helping Beacon House youth reach grade level-mastery in these skills. Yearly assessment test results indicate that each year participants average an increase in reading of 2 grade levels or more, and in math average an increase of 1.2 grade levels or more. Students meet with trained volunteer tutors in weekly, individualized, two - hour sessions throughout the school year.
Teen Tutoring: We offer
a math and reading
tutoring program for
high school students
modeled closely after
the FOCUS curriculum.
This program is designed
to help our high school
students successfully
complete high school
armed with the academic
skills to perform well
on college entrance
exams, gain admission to
college or a
professional school, or
to enter the workforce
in gainful employment.
